Emily Blunt didn’t shy away from glitter for the Met Gala on Monday night, channeling the glitz seen on Hedi Lamarr from the iconic fashion movie “Ziegfeld Girl” for a unique take on this year’s American-inspired theme. Classic pearls and a boxy silver clutch completed her ’40s retro fit, but it was her shimmery makeup that allowed her to bring the look into the 21st century.

“The vision for Emily’s look was inspired by all the amazing glitter that adorned her dress and this incredible image of Heidi Lamar,” says Blunt’s makeup artist Jen Streicher, referring to Lamar’s vaudeville outfit from the 1940 film , which inspired Blunt’s custom glitter-adorned Miu. Miu frock, which she paired with a star-spangled headpiece and dramatic white cape.

Overall, Streicher says She and Blunt decided on a subdued look that wouldn’t overwhelm the drama of her outfit. “This was definitely her most daring look ever, so we wanted to keep her makeup minimal but pretty and still have fun.” Fortunately, Streicher pointed out Diversity Just like how she achieved the shimmer-heavy makeup that completed Blunt’s stunning performance on the carpet. A cocktail of vibrant eye colors from Chantecaille made most of the look, which Silver undertones complimented her great fit.
